Get involved with Lancashire & Cumbria LMCs

NHS Hospital Trusts

The LMC liaises (when required) with the local hospital trusts on any matter or service development that may impact on primary care. The LMC represents doctors in the their role as providers of medical care (not as commissioners) and as such raises issues that may have arisen as a result of a CCG or hospital consultant action or a change in hospital policy. With the potential shift of work out of the hospital into primary care it is important that there is a sound and mature relationship between both parties to ensure that there is an understanding around the work implications and that full agreement is reached by all.

Over the years the LMC has been successful in tackling important issues that have affected the GP workload and also patient care.
Some of these are listed below:

  • The timeliness and accuracy of patient discharge letters.
  • Communications from A&E.
  • Palliative Care and End of Life discharge communications.
  • Data sharing – local shared care records.
  • Shared Care and dumping prescribing of secondary care drugs.
  • Asking GPs to do follow up tests or chase up test results ordered in secondary care.
