Haverthwaite Surgery is a small, friendly semi-rural dispensing Practice situated in the Lake District National Park near Lake Windermere. We deliver high quality health care to our cohort of 2,800 patients locally from our Surgery in the village of Backbarrow. We are a small team consisting of 1 GP Partner, 1 Non-Clinical Partner, 2 long-term locums GPs, 1 Practice Nurse, 1 HCA, 1 Dispenser and 6 receptionist/clerical staff. We work closely with South Lakes Primary Care Network to ensure that we deliver exceptional care through a close knit, supportive working community. 

We are looking for a Practice Operations Manager to manage the operational and HR functions within the Practice and provide leadership to the team. The ideal candidate should have experience working within Primary Care, preferably at a senior level or be able to show a proven understanding of the compliance, HR and leadership skills required to undertake this role in our GP Practice. You should be happy working in a small team with the flexibility to adapt to change or take on additional duties. Although many elements of the role are of course prescriptive, we are a small, close-knit team so we too can be flexible to new suggestions and ways of working. Role Overview: 

  • Manage the day-to-day operation and organisation of the Practice in conjunction with the Partners and all members of the team. 
  • Manage staff rotas, holiday times and clinical staff rotas 
  • Responsible for staff management, contracts, training, appraisals and implementation of employment legislation etc 
  • Manage the Practice premises, landlord and contractors ensuring that it is appropriately maintained to ensure the health and safety of all users. 
  • Manage the procurement of Practice equipment, supplies and services and ensure appropriate legislation, insurance etc is correctly in place 
  • Review and develop Practice protocols and policies and ensure that they are managed and accessible through the Practice Teamnet platform. 
  • Maintain the Practice's Care Quality Commission registration ensuring that all standards and requirements are implemented and maintained, preparing and managing CQC inspections and reviews. 
  • Carry out Risk Assessments, COSHH and manage contracts required or Health & Safety eg Fire and security systems 
  • Work in conjunction with the Partners to ensure income streams are monitored and managed 

Job Type: 37.5 hours per week 

Salary: £30-35k

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8am to 4pm 

Education: Educated to GCSE (incl Maths & English). Higher level education desirable but not necessary for right candidate. 

Experience: 2 years minimum experience within a senior NHS role, preferably within a Primary Care Setting.
