The UCLan School of Medicine warmly invites you to a Workshop for GPs in Cumbria who are interested in hosting and teaching students in their Practice.

1-5pm on Wednesday 17th July 2024

Samuel Lindow Building, Westlakes Science and Technology Park, Moor Row, CA24 3JY

 A light buffet lunch will be available from 1pm, and the workshop will start at 1:30pm, finishing by 5pm. Free parking is available at the Samual Lindow building, UCLan Westlakes campus, at the Westlakes Science Park, just outside Whitehaven.

 Content will include:

  • Overview of UCLan MBBS, MPAS programmes and placements, Westlakes focus.
  • Responsibilities and practicalities of hosting students: Benefits for the practice, process of becoming a placement provider, payment. Supervision requirements. Epigeum course. Suggested placement timetable. Induction. EMIS training. Student workbook. MiniCEX, DOPs, audit project. Wellbeing and Safety. Professionalism. Raising concerns. Feedback.
  • What makes a good placement - feedback from students and GPs.
  • Teabreak
  • Work Based Learning and Medical Education in General Practice - latest research in a nutshell.
  • Creating good learning experiences in Primary Care – examples from practice, ideas and discussion.
  • Further opportunities at UCLan - Westlakes teaching, CPD, postgrad courses.
