Lead Nurse – Queen Square Medical Practice, Lancaster
Location: Queen Square Medical Practice, 2 Queen Square, Lancaster, LA1 1RP
Hours: Full-time (flexible; part-time considered)
Salary: Equivalent to AfC Band 7 (based on experience)
Reports to: • Clinically: GP Partners • Managerially: Practice Director
About Us
Queen Square is a vibrant, forward-thinking, independent GP practice serving ~16,000 patients across Lancaster and Caton. A friendly and research-active training practice, we pride ourselves on offering innovative services from travel health to fertility clinics and a supportive, collaborative environment for staff growth. The Role Are you ready to lead? We’re looking for a motivated, experienced Lead Nurse to:
• Provide clinical leadership to our nursing team in LTCs, acute care, immunisations, and health promotion • Drive performance, meeting QOF, enhanced services, and infection control targets
• Champion clinical governance, service development, and quality improvement
• Manage & mentor staff, coordinate rotas, and foster a positive learning culture
Key Responsibilities
• Leadership & Team Management, chair meetings, lead appraisals, develop your team
• Clinical Delivery, lead LTC clinics, vaccination programmes, manage acute care autonomously
• Governance & Improvement, implement NICE guidelines, audits, ensure safe medicines storage
• Administration, maintain accurate SNOMED-encoded records, oversee nurse CPD • Collaboration & Innovation – work with PCN colleagues, enhance services (e.g. respiratory, LD clinics)
Your Profile Essential
• RGN with NMC registration
• Degree/diploma in nursing, primary care or LTC specialist qualifications
• Mentor or instructor qualification, clinical supervision trained
• Solid primary care experience (chronic disease management, immunisations, IPC lead)
Desirable
• Independent/supplementary prescriber
• Leadership/management qualification (Level 7/MSc)
• Postgraduate specialty qualifications (e.g. respiratory, diabetes)
Skills & Attributes
• Clinical proficiency: wound care, ECGs, spirometry, cytology, venepuncture
• Strong leadership, communication, data audit, and analytical skills
• Motivated, resilient, empathetic, and solution-focused
• Enhanced DBS clearance; willingness to travel across sites
