General Practitioner (Fixed Term – 2 Years, 5 Clinical Sessions)

About the Role: We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic General Practitioner to join our friendly and supportive practice team on a fixed-term 2-year contract for 5 clinical sessions per week. This is an exciting opportunity for a GP who is committed to delivering high-quality patient care and is keen to develop additional interests within primary care, including minor surgery and/or a GP Trainer role.

Main Duties of the Role: The postholder will provide high-quality clinical care to patients within the practice, working as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centred services. This will include face-to-face and remote consultations, clinical decision-making, prescribing, referrals, and the management of a varied caseload of acute and chronic conditions. The GP will also contribute to the wider operational and developmental work of the practice, including involvement in agreed areas such as Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF), enhanced services, clinical audits, and the completion of medical reports. Responsibilities in these areas will be shared across the GP team in line with practice priorities and individual interests.

The postholder will also participate in the practice’s enhanced access rota, supporting the delivery of extended appointment provision for patients.

About the Organisation: Shap Medical Practice is a rural GP training practice providing comprehensive NHS primary care services to the local population of Shap and the surrounding Eden Valley area. The practice operates from Shap Health Centre, with a branch surgery in Orton, and delivers a wide range of services including chronic disease management, preventative care, minor surgery, and enhanced services. The practice is supported by a dedicated multidisciplinary team, including GPs, nursing staff, healthcare assistants, dispensary staff, and administrative and management teams, all working collaboratively to deliver high-quality care. As a training practice, Shap Medical Practice is actively involved in supporting GP registrars and medical education.

We are committed to continuous improvement, strong clinical governance, and delivering accessible, high-quality healthcare tailored to the needs of our rural community.
